What is a SWOT Analysis?

A SWOT Analysis stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. This simple framework allows you to identify internal and external factors that may impact your business strategy.

Strengths and weaknesses are your internal factors, which means they include things like your marketing strategy, employees or the location of your business. Opportunities and threats encompass any external factors, such as consumer trends, market fluctuations or competition.

Why use a SWOT Analysis?

A SWOT Analysis can be used to help you be more strategic in your planning and make more justified decisions in multiple situations, whether you’re looking to develop a stronger business strategy, launch a new product or identify new opportunities for your company.

The SWOT Analysis framework is simple to understand, yet it’s a powerful way to help you easily hone in on the areas that you should focus on. It encourages you to look at the bigger picture while also identifying more specific factors that can help you reduce the likelihood of failure in your endeavors.
