Mind Mapping in Ayoa

The creators of iMindMap bring you, Ayoa

iMindMap has become one of the world’s most popular Mind Mapping software tools. However, we felt Mind Mapping could go further, so we’ve been busy implementing all of the best bits from iMindMap and adding a host of new features into our latest tool, Ayoa.

What is Ayoa?

OpenGenius are the creators behind iMindMap, DropTask and Ayoa. In the beginning, there was iMindMap. Then, OpenGenius launched DropTask – a visual Task Management tool.

We’ve learned a lot over the years about what our iMindMap and DropTask customers value in our products. After many years of development, feedback and experience, we made the decision to create Ayoa – a tool that combines the tech & knowledge of our two software products, so you can not only create amazing ideas, but turn them into reality.

An idea remains just an idea until actioned. Ayoa brings together the creative power of the Mind Map, with visual task management capabilities, communication and real-time sharing to take Mind Mapping to another level in personal or team productivity.

Quick and powerful ideation

Unlike other Mind Mapping tools on the market, Ayoa allows you to add ideas as soon as they’re generated. Speed is one of our strong points in Ayoa, especially when it comes to creating and editing your Mind Map. Quickly arrange your thoughts as branches and then turn them into tasks, all from one place.

Formatting, color and style

Enhance your work and bring your ideas to life by adjusting the appearance of your branches and branch connectors. Ayoa contains a varied color palette, ideal for creating both professional and creative Mind Maps. Adjust the size, color and style of your branches so you can differentiate between different areas, whilst keeping a clear and easy-to-navigate appearance.

Adding images and files

Add images and files

A picture speaks a thousand words. Add images directly onto your branches to represent key themes and spark further ideas. Upload your own images or select an image from the Unsplash gallery within the branch editor. You can also turn your Mind Map into a powerful resource hub to support your ideas by adding files to your branches, including documents, audio files and web links – so you can take your ideas to the next level.

Add notes and comments

Develop your more detailed ideas by adding notes onto your branches within the Branch Editor, providing you with a space to expand on your thoughts. Ideal for discussing ideas with others, add comments to your branches where you can talk through your work, ask questions, give feedback or simply show your appreciation for a great idea.

Notes and Comments

Emoji reactions

Add emoji reactions to branches in your Mind Map as a great way to bring a bit of creative fun to your Mind Map, whilst letting others know that you have seen their contributions and what your initial thoughts are on their ideas.

Idea Bank

The Idea Bank gives a home to all of your stray thoughts until you’re ready to bring them across into your Mind Maps. Easily enter your ideas as quickly as they strike, so you never lose a train of thought. Then simply drag these across onto your Mind Map branches wherever they fit best, sparing you the worry of adding them to your brainstorm right away.

Organise your map with ease by placing categories around your branches. These allow you to highlight different areas of your Mind Map and place them into groups that share similarities. Categories are represented by neat boxes around your branches, to clearly indicate when different ideas fit into a particular group. There are no restrictions when naming your categories, so these can represent anything that’s of value to you.

Turn your ideas into tasks

An idea remains just an idea until you bring it to life. Turn your ideas into action by turning your individual branches into a task. You can then easily send this into a Task Board, your Planner (or both!) so you can organise your workload and priorities efficiently and watch your ideas blossom into reality.

Ideas to Tasks

Autohide lets you focus your attention on specific areas by hiding away the rest of your map when focusing on a particular area. Ideal for larger maps or presenting your ideas to others, Autohide means you can tuck away the clutter and focus on what’s important.

Show Creators

Ideal for collaborating with others, the Show Creators function adds you and your colleagues’ icons onto the branches that they created, so you can see who’s ideas are who’s at a glance. This will help you keep track of everyone’s thoughts, allowing you to easily discuss and plan them as a team.

Psst – iMindMap users! Feeling a little confused? We’re here to help

We appreciate that our iMindMap customers may be a little confused about how they can move across from iMindMap to Ayoa.

iMindMap is a great bit of software that has allowed our users to capture incredible ideas since way back in 2006. It’s a product we’re proud of, but it’s time to give Mind Mapping the update it truly deserves.

Ayoa brings with it a lot of changes – and while change can be daunting, we firmly believe that Ayoa is the future of Mind Mapping. We say “the future” because there’s so much more to come – this is a continual mission of creativity, innovation, and development.

iMindMap went through 11 versions – existing users had to pay to upgrade because that’s how the system works under a perpetual license model. Now, users will continue to get new developments as part of their subscription without any need to upgrade or redownload, streamlining the whole process.

Ayoa is a new product, but takes on the best features of iMindMap, and making them faster and more intuitive. However, we appreciate that this is not an overnight transition. Our roadmap details the exciting upcoming features that we will be introducing to Ayoa. Innovation is a journey, not a destination. Ayoa will continue to progress and grow as our knowledge, experience and creativity does the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

To give you more info, we’ve provided some FAQs specifically for the iMindMap community – we hope you’ll join us on our new path to creativity.

What does Ayoa mean?

Why pick a name with a definition, when you can make one up and give it meaning? That was our thinking with ‘Ayoa’ – it’s a name that can grow to mean more as our software does the same. Trust us when we say, there are many exciting things to come.

Why does Ayoa have fewer views than in iMindMap?

On a surface level, you’re right – Ayoa doesn’t have all the Mind Mapping views that existed in iMindMap. However, it also has a lot of views and functionality that did not exist (and simply weren’t possible to implement) in iMindMap – with Ayoa you can collaborate in real time, access your Mind Maps anywhere in the world on any device connected to the internet. Ayoa is fast and agile for quick thought capture. These aren’t excuses; users help us shape the path our development takes.

Good news! We have new features coming soon. Please see our roadmap here for more details.

Where is Fast Capture?

Fast Capture was a feature favourite in iMindMap, and that’s why the same functionality still exists in Ayoa – now, it is under the name ‘Idea Bank’. But worry not, the concept and execution is still just as effective: fire out thoughts into your Idea Bank, and then easily restructure them in your Mind Map using the drag and drop functionality. Simples.

Good news! Fast Capture is coming soon. Please see our roadmap here for more details.

What if I want to use organic Mind Mapping?

We hear you. It’s true, organic Mind Mapping isn’t available in Ayoa, yet. There’s a reason for this – we developed Ayoa with a certain set of priorities; speed and ease of use was one of them. Many organic Mind Mappers are knowledgeable, experienced creativity specialists (we see you) – but we’re now trying to bring that same skill of creativity to the world. Teams and individuals who’ve never heard of Mind Mapping before need to be able to jump right in and use it efficiently. We haven’t forgotten organic Mind Mappers, we’re just asking that you bear with us as we continue to grow.

Good news! Organic Mind Mapping is coming soon. Please see our roadmap here for more details.

Why do I have to subscribe?

Unlike iMindmap, Ayoa is a Software as a Service product. Here at OpenGenius, we’re always moving forward – the single biggest benefit of using a SaaS model is we can easily provide continual updates and improvements to our users. Under a perpetual license product, we went through 11 versions of iMindMap – that’s a lot. Now, enhancements can be made instantly accessible to our user base.

The modern world is moving increasingly towards subscription-based products – even the entertainment industry has funneled into a new realm of streaming services; this is because it improves overall user experience and better facilitates growth. Ayoa is web-based which means it is accessible anywhere, from any internet connected device. Work is always safe (even if your laptop dies!) and collaboration is easy. We’re an innovation company, and ultimately we have to move with the times to keep providing our customers with the best software possible.

How do I share Mind Maps with others?

You can share your Mind Maps with anyone and everyone. Simply ask the people you’d like to share your Map with to create an Ayoa account and invite them to your Mind Map. Depending on the permissions you’ve granted them, they’ll be able to view, edit, comment and add branches to your Mind Map.

How do I import Mind Maps?

Great news! You can import all of your existing Maps from iMindMap into Ayoa. You can do this by selecting the ‘Import iMindMap IMX File’ from within the Mind Map browser. You also have the option to import files from iMindMap Cloud. You can do this by logging into your Cloud account via Ayoa and then import your Mind Maps from iMindMap Cloud into Ayoa. Please visit our support guide for more information on how to do this.

Can I sync my Mind Maps to my phone?

Ayoa seamlessly syncs all of your work across the devices that you’re using. If you’ve created a Mind Map on your computer and want to access it on your phone, simply open the Ayoa app on your mobile device and ta-dah, your Map will appear exactly how you once left it.*

Have a question that still needs to be answered?

Drop us an email at where our customer support team will be able to put you at ease.

*Please note, Ayoa’s Mind Map feature is not currently available on Android devices. Mind Maps is only available on the Web, Desktop and iOS.
