In this article, Bernd Kiefer and Bettina Rudert, authors of “Qualitätsmanagement mit Mind Maps” (Quality Management with Mind Maps), provide us with an insight into their latest book release and how iMindMap Ultimate has revolutionised the way they work.
Kiefer and Rudert are currently employed as Quality Managers in nursing homes in Germany. They are also freelance consultants within the German public service sector advising hospitals, clinics, special needs facilities and social services. Both are avid mind mappers and have been using the technique for over 10 years. It is their favourite method for learning, planning, lecturing and presenting.
As established authors, Kiefer and Rudert published the first version in 2005. However, in 2012, the pair started to re-write the book. They discovered iMindMap Ultimate and were so impressed with its creative possibilities that they decided to re-design over 80 Mind Maps in the book.
The book explores a wide variety of topics within the field of quality management. It discusses proven quality systems and features a plethora of case studies within the German public service sector. Kiefer and Rudert’s expert approach to public sector quality management has been widely recognised in Germany and, consequently, the book has been integrated into the Social Care curriculum for various universities.
The versatility of the software means that Kiefer and Rudert apply it to multiple tasks within their roles as quality managers. The pair started by using iMindMap to present to colleagues. However, it soon became an integral tool for all daily tasks such as planning meetings and projects, brainstorming chapters for books, devising quality models, illustrating step-by-step processes, facilitating quality circles and creating illustrations for quality management manuals.
“The Mind Maps created in iMindMap Ultimate look so professional and artistic and complement the text perfectly. As our book is printed in black and white, we wanted to create Mind Maps which were visually distinctive with unique branches, graphics and images.”
According to Kiefer, “It is so much better than the other Mind Mapping software that is available. From my experience, it is the only software that allows me to transform a map into a piece of art. I really like that I can customise the branches on the Mind Map to my liking and use images which I have created as the central idea. ”
The pair’s colleagues have also benefited from iMindMaps. Quality management is a continually evolving field in which individuals must remain up-to-date. When Rudert and Kiefer need to share new legislation with colleagues, they do so using Mind Maps. They have found that Mind Maps are the most concise way to display information, and that they save colleagues having to read through reams of paper to decipher the updates.
